Education

I am currently an doctoral student in Anthropology at Brandeis University. I received a BA at UC Berkeley and an MA in Anthropology and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Brandeis. I also have a background in book publishing--academic and fiction works (I interned at Wiley Blackwell in Malden and in City Lights in San Francisco, CA, amongst other publishing engagements).

Experience

I am currently a teaching fellow for the anthropology department at Brandeis University. This work not only requires a knowledge of anthropology as a discipline, but also of critical reading and analysis, writing, and academic advice. I have been tutoring for about 3 years now. This work has included workshopping essays, understanding complex academic ideas, and advising students how to shape and craft applications, as well as resumes and cvs. I am also actively involved in my own research involving infertility, gender, and womanhood, as well as other professional projects with colleagues in the social sciences using an anthropological lens. As an undergraduate at UC Berkeley, I was employed by the university as a note taker for the Disabled Students Program. I created extensive notes for and improved understanding of course material for disabled students in numerous classes. Fun fact: while interning at City Lights Bookstore and Publisher in San Francisco, California I assisted in proofreading Gertrude Stein’s Tender Buttons, The Corrected Centennial Edition. I also helped create the index for Woman with Guitar: Memphis Minnie’s Blues on InDesign. While studying abroad at the University of Cape Town, Cape Town, South Africa, I also volunteered as a student teacher and tutor in the townships. Every Thursday, I taught English to and led “life skills” workshops to children of grades 7-8. Every Wednesday, I taught English, music and art in the Manenberg township to grades 2-3. I taught art at the Nectar Home Orphanage, home to children orphaned by HIV/AIDS in Odumase Krobo, Ghana. While there, I also spearheaded a project that inspired students to sell artwork, the proceeds of which went back to the students in the form of art materials for the class.
