Experience

Being passionate about helping struggling students become better learners and writers, I am able to tutor both English language arts and Spanish, as well as assist students with standardized tests. Some of the language arts subjects I can help students with include literature, writing (including creative, fiction, persuasive, and expository writing), reading, journalism, poetry, vocabulary, and essay editing. I can help with SAT Verbal, Critical Reading, and Writing preparation, along with AP English Language and Composition. Other subjects I can help with are American history and math.I pursued my education at both the University of Pennsylvania and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Professionally, I have worked as a middle school teacher and am certified, although I have experience working with children as young as kindergarteners. I have taught English as a second language and am fluent in Spanish. I have taught for over 20 schools and programs in the United States, and I have also gone to Peru and Chile to teach English. While in Latin America, part of my duties included training teachers.When I am not tutoring, I like to read books and news magazines, go bachata and salsa dancing, run, volunteer, and participate in a Spanish book club. I also enjoy magical realism and fantasy. Lastly, another interest is helping Spanish speakers learn Portuguese.
