Experience
The most enjoyable experiences of my career as a scientist have been teaching. For that reason, I intend to spend the time between by recent Ph.D. graduation and the start of my next job, as a Management Consultant in July, tutoring. As both a Graduate (MIT) and Undergraduate (Tufts) student I taught recitations, typically three times per week, in Intro Honors Chemistry, Thermodynamics, and Physical Chemistry Lab techniques. I also engaged in one-on-one tutoring with students having difficulties in those courses as well as the undergraduate researchers I mentored. My approach to education has been objectively validated; on all 4 exams and 9 of 12 pop quizzes, neither of which I had previously seen, my section of students in Intro Chemistry outperformed all 5 other sections, by an average margin of over 5 exam points. Under the recommendation of my students I received a Graduate Teaching Award. I have extensive experience both academically and in practice (through my research) in Math (espec. Linear Algebra, Calculus, and Differential Equations), Chemical Engineering, and the Physical Sciences (Quantum Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Physical Chemistry). As a scientist I have been distinguished by - 14 peer-reviewed publications, 5 of which I am the Lead Author on; - 12 talks at international conferences, 2 of which I was solicited to give, including the largest annual Physics (APS), Materials (MRS), and Chemical Engineering (AIChE) conferences in the world; and - 8 awards specifically for my research accomplishments, totaling over $300k. I have also taken a number of courses in Management Science/Business Administration at the MIT Sloan School of Management, including Applied Microeconomics, Marketing Management, and Competitive Strategy. I have applied that education in consulting engagements, including developing strategy proposals and market research for the senior management of a $16b Chinese State-Owned Enterprise, a $17b Integrated Circuit manufacturer, a US Healthcare Software Start-up, and a $27b Glass manufacturer.
